Bakrid 2016 Eid al-Adha- Dates, Celebration, Images, Wishes, SMS

Eid al-Adha will be celebrated in India on September 13. The holiday will be observed on 13 September across the country. Eid al-Adha, also called the “Sacrifice Feast” or “Bakr-Eid”, is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide each year, and considered the holier of the two. Eid al-Adha is the second of Muslim festivals celebrated worldwide each year. The festival is celebrated to honour the willingness of prophet Ibrahim, who sacrificed his son, as an act of submission to God’s command.  It is a gazetted holiday in India and is also referred to as the festival of sacrifice.
In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasts for three days. In the international(Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary from year to year drifting approximately 11 days earlier each year.
Eid al-Adha is the latter of the two Eid holidays, the former being Eid al-Fitr. The word “Eid” appears once in Al-Ma’ida, the fifth sura of the Quran, with the meaning “solemn festival”. Every year, thousands of Muslims sacrifice goats, buffalos and camels on Eid al-Adha.

Bakrid Celebration

How is Eid al-Adha celebrated?
For Muslims, the day begins with morning prayers, followed by the exchange of food and gifts with family and friends. Muslims are obliged to share their food and money with the poor so they too can take part in the celebrations.
Eid al-Adha is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (also known as Abraham) to follow Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael. Muslims around the world observe this event.
During the celebration of Eid al-Adha, Muslims commemorate and remember Abraham’s trials, by themselves slaughtering an animal such as a sheep, camel, or goat.
The meat from the sacrifice of Eid al-Adha is mostly given away to others. One-third is eaten by immediate family and relatives, one-third is given away to friends, and one-third is donated to the poor. The act symbolizes our willingness to give up things that are of benefit to us or close to our hearts
